![]() My life as a visual artist began in the late 1990s when I took some local drawing classes and then discovered watercolor. I began with a few tubes of paint, modest brushes, artist-quality paper and a few good books. I was taking my first steps toward becoming a self-taught artist. Along my journey, I have been fortunate to have been able to take a few workshops with some great artists and teachers, such as Cheng-Khee Chee, Stephen Quiller, Barbara Nechis and the late Zoltan Szabo. Until I discovered visual arts in the late 1990s, my artistic focus had been on music and my professional career focus on being a scientist at NASA. And now there was a new aspect emerging. I believe that somehow they are all linked together…the music, the science, the art. I think I have probably beaten a well-worn path in my brain between left side and right side As I continued to learn watercolor, my interest in mixed media and experimental painting was really piqued and I began straying from the transparent watercolor purist approach as well as from total realism. I love color and texture and light! Bringing those elements together in a way that pleases my eyes and fills my soul is what this exciting journey is all about for me. Where it will lead I don’t know. I only know that I have to follow so that the artist in me can grow and my muse can be entertained. |
